Save the Date: Midsummer’s Night Dream & Spectacle set for August 6
July 14, 2016 — (Key West, FL). Key West Art & Historical Society and Java Studios present the 10th Annual Midsummer’s Night Dream & Spectacle, a family-friendly revelry that celebrates the Keys creative community with music, poetry, painting, feasting, dancing, singing, hooping, theatrical antics, winged sprites and summer’s night magic.
The playful and spontaneous celebration will cast its magic at the historic Fort East Martello Museum in Key West on on Saturday, August 6 from 6-10pm.
“It all begins with a dream,” says community arts advocate Michael Shields, who founded the event a decade ago as an opportunity for the Keys creative community to come together during one night of the summer and share the power of their dreams. “Everyone is a co-creator of Midsummer’s Night Dream & Spectacle” he said. “Musicians, actors, painters, card-readers, filmmakers, poets, dancers, storytellers, jugglers, fire-breathers, clowns, fairies, nymphs, and satyrs are all invited to take the stage and stir the creative magic.”
Shields, a Key West Art & Historical Society board member, joined The Society last year in presenting the Spectacle that now benefits KWAHS children’s educational programs. The colorful festivity is an annual favorite among locals who revel in the interactive art projects and spontaneous celebration, many costumed for merrymaking in attire ranging from Key West cool and casual to Midsummer’s magical vying for the title of Spectacle King and Queen.
The civil war-era fort and grounds will hold several stages throughout featuring artists of local and national renown. Libations and delectable food will be available throughout the merry-making fundraiser, as will costumes for purchase and other spell-casting accessories.
Fort East Martello is located at 3501 S. Roosevelt Blvd., Key West. Parking is available on site. Tickets will be available at the door for $15 or $10 in advance by visiting www.KWAHS.org. Children 12 and under admitted free. Prospective vendors and artists should contact Michael Shields at 305-394-3804.
