Running for Rhonda Charity supports local scholarships
{Announces establishment and Cinco de Mayo race and fundraiser}
Key West, FL– Running for Rhonda Charity, Inc., strives to continue the legacy of Rhonda Flores by promoting fitness, education, and fellowship, all things very important to our extraordinary friend.
Rhonda Flores, a cherished resident of Key West for many years, left an indelible mark on the hearts of many worldwide with her sudden passing in May of 2023. A group of Rhonda’s girlfriends have joined together to support each other and continue to keep her spirit alive by establishing a 501(c)(3), Running for Rhonda Charity, Inc. The mission is to bring people together in fellowship to celebrate the amazing life of Rhonda Flores, her dedication to education, and her enthusiasm for fitness. The initial goal is to raise $25,000 to sponsor a college scholarship in Rhonda’s name for a local participant in Take Stock in Children, the flagship program of the Monroe County Education Foundation. Rhonda was a mentor with Take Stock in Children, and she believed strongly in the transformative power of this program.
“Rhonda made countless contributions to the Key West community,” said Board President Loriellen Robertson. “We hope you will help support this endeavor to continue Rhonda’s legacy.”
On Sunday, May 5, 2024, the charity is hosting the first official fundraiser with a 5K race, a 1 Mile Fun Run and a ¼ Mile Run for the little ones. Kicking off at 8 a.m. from the Truman Waterfront, families and participants are invited to stay after for a fantastic Cinco de Mayo Celebration. This first annual event features tunes by DJ Jimmy Jamz, Alcoholic (21+) and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Festive Food, a Raffle and more – a party that is sure to be fun for all ages!
“We ran so many races together and Rhonda always showed up with her vibrant spirit, wonderfully infectious smile and vivacious energy.” said Natasha Lane, Race Committee Chair. “It’s a true honor to be a part of such a beautiful cause that I know she would be proud of.”
