Rick Scott Joins Carlos Curbelo’s List of All-in-for-Trump Donors
Miami, FL- Last week Rick Scott gave $2,700 to Carlos Curbelo, joining his long list of all-in-for-Trump donors. Curbelo won’t tell the public who he is voting for and tells the press he does not support Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, however it has not stopped Curbelo from privately requesting the financial support of Trump’s highest profile donors.
“My positions are clear, whether it’s on the issues or on who I’m supporting for president—I support policies that help South Florida families and I voted for Hillary Clinton, but Curbelo’s rhetoric and record just don’t match,” said Joe Garcia, candidate for Florida’s 26th congressional district. “Curbelo claims to oppose Trump but closely allies himself with people like Rick Scott and Sheldon Adelson who are leading the charge for the Trump campaign.”
Scott is not the first high profile Trump supporter and donor to donate thousands to Curbelo’s campaign. Las Vegas casino magnate Sheldon Adelson has spent millions of dollar trying to elect Trump, yet Curbelo called him anyways and asked for, and received, almost $22,000 for his campaign and PAC. Extreme Republican Francis Rooney—who doubled down on his support of Trump after his 2005 sexist comments were revealed—has given over $20,000 for Curbelo’s reelection. TD Ameritrade founder J. Joe Ricketts and his family have gave Trump $1 million last month alone and sent Curbelo thousands of dollars as well.
“Carlos Curbelo has run a Trump-like campaign based on lies and deception so it’s no surprise Trump’s campaign financiers are bankrolling Curbelo too,” said Javier Hernandez, spokesperson for the Garcia campaign.
Given Curbelo’s record, it is no surprise Trump donors want him in Congress to rubber stamp Donald Trump’s agenda. Curbelo has an anti-environment record just like Scott, and voted to relinquish National Park Service protections for Biscayne National Park and hand control of a national marine reserve to Gov. Rick Scott’s administration. Curbelo has tried repealing and undermining Obamacare, and was silent when Gov. Scott refused to expand Medicaid in Florida, leaving 800,000 Floridians without access to necessary healthcare coverage.

- In 2014 (a race Garcia narrowly lost), Democrats went into election-day with a 1.5-point deficit. But, in 2016 Democrats have already opened up a 3-point advantage over Republicans in turnout at the CD26 polls—and expect to grow that lead by the end of Early Voting.
- Joe Garcia’s campaign recently announced they have a massive field operation and have called and knocked on 400,000 doors in an effort to turn out the vote for Garcia.
- National and local Democrats have invested heavily in Garcia, with the DCCC placing over $5 million in television and radio ads that are currently running in the district.
- Joe Garcia is beating Curbelo in the most recent poll.
- Joe Garcia served South Florida in Congress from 2013 to 2015. He is currently running for election against Republican Rep. Carlos Curbelo in a Congressional District that has been redrawn and favors Democrats.
