RESIDENTS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS VIRTUAL ONLINE PUBLIC MEETING REGARDING STORM SURGE & SEA-LEVEL RISE

MONROE COUNTY, FL – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), in partnership with Monroe County, released the Draft Integrated Feasibility Report and Environmental Impact Statement for the Monroe County Coastal Storm Risk Feasibility Management Study today. Residents will have until Aug. 10 to comment and provide feedback to the USACE on the plan. The following provides the Draft Integrated Study Report/Environmental Impact Statement: www.saj.usace.army.mil/FloridaKeysCSRMFeasibilityStudy/.

The USACE is investigating solutions to reduce the damage and risks from flooding that comes from storm surges associated with hurricanes and tropical storms amplified by sea level rise. The study focuses on critical infrastructure and areas that are vulnerable to coastal storms. The draft, prepared pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act, identifies coastal storm flood risks to residents, industries, and businesses, develops risk-management measures, and evaluates its impacts to human and natural environments.
