Rescue Tails / Bluey’s Best Life

Many of us have types of dogs we are drawn to, and Sharla was a “hound person”. We first met her years ago when she adopted a Basset Hound from us. When she learned we had a hound mix named Roscoe, she came to meet him and immediately fell in love. She visited him several times and eventually brought her family in to meet him, hoping he would be the perfect match for them. Roscoe was a great dog, incredibly sweet and sensitive, but also powerful and at times youthfully rambunctious. The older kids were great with him, both respectful and kind. Roscoe did well but his playful enthusiasm with their youngest was a bit much. Sharla thought she could safely manage the interactions between the two but was about to go out of town. She understood that we couldn’t hold Roscoe for them if he found another good potential home. By the time she returned home, Roscoe had been adopted. Although Sharla was disappointed, we all decided it may have been for the best and that we should continue to look for a good match for the whole family.
Moona was found as a stray and brought to us by a concerned citizen worried for her safety. She looked like a small black and white Cattle Dog mix. She appeared to be 2-3 yrs. old and in good shape. She was already spayed but had no microchip to help identify her or who she belonged to. Given how sweet she was, we fully expected her family to come walking through the door at any moment to reclaim her. But days passed and when her stray-hold was up, she became our dog.
Time spent with Moona only strengthened our first impressions of her. She really was a great little dog. She was energetic and confident but never over-the-top. She was smart but easy to guide and manage. Although there are never any guarantees, we saw no behavior of concern that could potentially put young children at risk. She always seemed to have a happy doggie smile on her face!
Although Roscoe was still tugging at Sharla’s heartstrings, we knew the family was open to finding another dog. We suggested they meet Moona. Their first meet got them excited and a second meet with the whole family sealed the deal. Moona was gentle and respectful of the little one and engaged with the older kids. She showed her best side to everyone and the decision was made to invite her to become the newest member of their family.
The love this family has for Moona shines through in each and every update and picture we have gotten. Sharla told us “We named her Bluey after the blue heeler cartoon show. She is perfect for our family. She is great with the kids, gets along great with the cat and loves to plays with him. She is also a water dog which is absolutely perfect for our lifestyle. You definitely picked the right dog for our family!”
We don’t know what Bluey’s life looked like before, but we feel pretty sure she’s living her best life now!
