Rescue Tail / Maple flies to Missouri

With her petite size, gentle personality and big brown eyes, Kiki was arguably one of the cutest Chihuahuas I have ever seen. Her tiny tail wagged so hard it rocked her little body back and forth with each swish. When her owners could no longer keep her, she was surrendered to our Marathon Campus. Despite the loss of her family, and being at a shelter, her bright, demeanour was endearing.

As she waited to be spayed and placed for adoption, we thoroughly enjoyed spending our days at the shelter with Kiki. She loved an oversized bed and snuggling entirely under a blanket. Despite her small size, she loved going for walks, as her little legs pitter-patted along the sidewalk trying to keep up as best she could. As we got to know each other, we quickly realized we also knew exactly who her perfect family would be.

Pink is a long time friend and adopter of the Florida Keys SPCA. She has a huge heart with a very soft spot for small, female chihuahuas. As it is after any loss, adopting a new loved one is a deeply personal choice in which every family and every situation greatly varies. After the loss of two of her beloved girls, she had recently reached out to let us know her home and heart may be open to adoption, should the right dog become available.

So, with a call to our friend Pink, she rushed to greet her new family member. We strive to make successful, lifelong matches and for Pink and Kiki, it could not have been a more perfect fit for both human, and dog alike. While Kiki was still waiting for her spay to be officially adopted, Pink had returned to her second home in Missouri with a promise that she and Kiki would be reunited as soon as she was out of surgery.

Having kept her promise, Pink’s husband picked Kiki up from our Marathon Campus after her surgery. With a few days of rest a their home in the Keys, she was whisked off to Missouri on a private plane to her furever home and family. Now named Maple, the little Florida Keys Chihuahua is a high-flying snowbird with a family that will love her for all of her days.
