Rescue at Simonton Beach: The Dive Team’s Predawn Heroics

The Key West Police Dive Team was called to search the water off Simonton Beach after a truck ran the stop sign at Front Street before dawn this morning. Officer Michael Beerbower responded within seconds, and he and a good Samaritan jumped into the water and extracted the driver safely. Due to darkeness and strong current, the Dive Team alerted the U.S. Coast Guard of the hazard to navigation, and discontinued efforts until daylight.
