REEF RELIEF ANNOUNCES CLEAN UP CHALLANGE

Reef Relief is hosting a Cigarette Cleanup Challenge. From now until March 11, Reef Relief is challenging residents and visitors to go into neighborhood areas to collect as many discarded cigarettes as possible. Discarded cigarettes consistently prove to be some of the most common items found during marine debris clean ups but do not fully decompose back into the environment.

Bring collections to the Reef Relief Educational Center at 631 Greene Street on March 11 from 12:00PM-2:00PM. Reef Relief will weigh each submission; the top three participants will win a prize.

Reef Relief will then send all collected cigarettes to TerraCycle, a waste management company, which will recycle them into new materials! As a bonus, the Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company will donate $1.00 towards the Keep America Beautiful Cigarette Litter Prevention Program for each pound sent in!
