REEF Fest 2017 Celebrates Florida Keys Marine Conservation

KEY LARGO, Florida Keys (Nov. 21, 2017) – REEF Fest, a celebration of marine conservation’s positive impact on the Florida Keys and around the world, includes a full slate of social events and presentations by renowned marine experts Thursdaythrough Sunday, Dec. 7-10, in Key Largo.

Hosted by the Key Largo–based nonprofit Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF), activities include a lineup of educational seminars, social gatherings, snorkeling, diving and eco-adventures on the water joined by some of the most prestigious names in marine conservation.

Festivities on Thursday kick off with a social from 6-9 p.m., including a casual picnic dinner and a seminar by Andy Dehart, vice president of animal husbandry for the Philip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, at the Murray Nelson Government and Cultural Center located at mile marker (MM) 102 bayside.

Friday and Saturday are filled with morning diving, snorkeling, paddleboarding and kayaking with area outfitters. Special afternoon presentations from ocean experts and evening social events are also on tap.

Saturday evening, the For the Love of the Sea dinner banquet from 6-10 p.m.features hors d’oeuvres, a three-course meal, full-service bar, music and a large silent auction. This is a ticketed event, for $65 per person. Sponsored by Divers Alert Network. Beer provided by the Florida Keys Brewing Company.

Sunday morning also offers diving and snorkeling trips, and ocean enthusiasts are encouraged to join REEF Fest’s eco-adventures to learn more about the marine environment. A percentage of charter proceeds benefit REEF’s ocean conservation programs.

All REEF Fest events are open to the public. Seminars held at the Murray Nelson Government Center, MM 102 bayside, and the Thursday and Friday evening social events are free. Pre-registration online is recommended.http://www.reef.org/reeffest/registration
