RED SPEEDO DIVES INTO DEEP WATER AT THE WATERFRONT PLAYHOUSE
The Award winning Waterfront Playhouse, on Mallory Square, will present Lucas Hnath’s Obie Award winning RED SPEEDO.
Opening night will be Thursday May 16. Following the show, an after party will be held in the sculpture garden in front of the theatre. Ray (Cody Borah) has swum his way to the eve of the Olympic trials. If he makes the team, he will get a deal with Speedo. If he gets a deal with Speedo, he’ll never need a real job. When a stash of performance enhancing drugs is found in the locker room, the fate of the entire team is in Ray’s hands.
The cast features Cody Borah, who seen last season in Hand to God, Jessica Miano Kruel, whose Key West credits include Blackbird, Spelling Bee, The Producers, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, August: Osage County, Private Lives, Steve Miller, a relatively new addition to the Waterfront Playhouse, appearing in this years season opener, Peter and the Starcatcher and Ross Pipkin, whose Waterfront credits include: The Miser, Black Comedy, 1776, Peter and the Starcatcher, Young Frankenstein, Red Barn Theater: Rompers, Speed-the-Plow, Cripple of Inishman and Theater XP: Person of Interest, Moment of Grace, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
Directed by John McDonald, who has appeared on Key West stages as Inspector Kemp in Young Frankenstein, Lord Aster in Peter and the Starcatcher, Sidney Carlton in Inspecting Carol and Col.McKean in 1776 the Musical at the Waterfront Playhouse, Alice’s Parlor, appeared in Romeo and Juliet, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest for Theatre XP, Twice Told Tales and Key Largo for WLRN Radio and Neal Ruchman’s The Pickpocket’s Daughter. This season he directed Waterfront on the Edge production of The Jewish Wife.
Technical Director Michael Boyer will design the set, Kim Hanson will design the lighting and Trish Manley will serve as Production stage manager.
The NY Times called the play “… a remarkable feat….a taut, incisive drama..” while CulturalWeekly.com said “…a brutal examination of the cravenness of the modern sport scene in particular and America in general…”
