Red Cross Update on Hurricane Helene
The Red Cross began mobilizing for Hurricane Helene on Monday and there are more than 400 responders on the ground across Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas, with an additional disaster workers arriving over the next 24 hours.
In addition to the human resources deployed, the Red Cross also mobilized more than 45,000 meals and snacks and truckloads of shelter supplies to support thousands of individuals in shelters.
This early action allowed the Red Cross to be ready for the significant pre-landfall population that is now staying at Red Cross-managed shelters. As of this morning, there are shelters and evacuation centers open with a population of nearly 2,500 individuals for Hurricane Helene across Alabama, Florida and North Carolina.
- Residents in the storm’s path can find evacuation shelters on redcross.org, the free Red Cross Emergency app or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767). They can also find shelters by following your local Red Cross and local emergency officials on social media.
