MIAMI, Fla. (December 7, 2022) – The South Florida Region of the American Red Cross has received a generous pledge of $100,000 from GL Homes to support the most recent disaster relief efforts of Hurricanes Ian and Nicole that devastated parts of Florida over the past two months.

Since 2018, GL Homes has supported the Red Cross during national and international episodic events and crises as well as national fundraising events donating more than $250,000. Additionally, GL Homes employees volunteered their time with the Red Cross during the Hurricane Dorian response.

Hurricane Ian brought severe devastation to thousands across Florida with nearly 19,000 homes damaged or destroyed. The widespread damage left by Ian led to one of the largest disaster damage assessments the Red Cross has ever undertaken, Red Cross teams have conducted more than 222,000 detailed residential assessments. More than 3,000 trained Red Cross disaster workers have supported the response to Ian. In addition to providing shelter, food and relief supplies, trained volunteers are providing health, mental health and spiritual support to families who have suffered unimaginable loss.

“We rely on the generosity of donors to help us deliver comfort and care to families when they need it most and GL Homes is doing just that with this tremendous gift,” said Eric Roby, Executive Director for the Red Cross Palm Beach and Treasure Coast Chapter. “So far this year, outside of our Hurricane Ian response, we have responded to more than 700 disasters in the South Florida Region with most of those being home fires. Thanks to the generous support of donors like GL Homes, we are able to reach even more people in need of Red Cross support. We thank them for their support in advancing our lifesaving mission.”

“When our colleagues and community are impacted by two devastating hurricanes to hit our state in one storm season, GL Homes can’t sit on the sidelines,” said Misha Ezratti, GL Homes President. “Our company trusts the Red Cross to get the right resources to those most in need. Our donation provides immediate aid for families to rebuild their homes and their lives. It’s going to be a long recovery process. GL Homes wants the victims of Hurricanes Ian and Nicole to know that they are not forgotten. We will stand by them.”

At a donor appreciation event on November 17, at the Palm Beach Yacht Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., the Red Cross presented GL Homes with a plaque recognizing and thanking GL Homes for its long-term commitment to the organization’s lifesaving mission. In attendance at the invite-only event sponsored by GL Homes were Board Members from the Red Cross Palm Beach and Treasure Coast Chapter, community partners and longtime supporters of the Red Cross.

These generous donations from the community and corporate partners enable the Red Cross to prepare communities for disasters big and small, respond whenever and wherever disasters occur and help families during the recovery process.
