Red Barn Season Tickets Now Available

A new theater season is upon us, and Key West’s venerable Red Barn Theatre has an exciting selection of plays and special events lined up for its 37th season. Ranging from the sublimely comic to the fanciful to the flat-out hilarious, it may be one of the strongest stage offerings yet at one of the southernmost city’s finest professional theaters.

Season Subscriptions are now available that include all five mainstage productions, and tickets for individual shows and events can also be purchased by calling the box office at 305-296-9911 or visiting www.redbarntheatre.com. You can become a Red Barn member with the purchase of any subscription.

The Subscription Series gets off to an intelligent, comic start with comedian Steve Martin’s “Picasso at the Lapin Agile”, a fanciful rendering of an imagined meeting between Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso at a bar in Paris. Egged on by a cast of lovable eccentrics, the two trade insights into their century’s achievements. “Lapin Agile” runs December 13 through January 14, 2017.

“Murder for Two” follows January 20 through February 12. It’s an hilarious, offbeat two-handed musical, where one actor investigates the crime while the other plays all the suspects and both play the piano (you have to see it to believe it). A witty homage to old-fashioned murder mysteries, it was nominated for Best Off-Broadway Musical.

Next up will be one of the classic musicals, “I Do, I Do”, running February 21 through March 18. The heartwarming show follows a couple through 50 years of marital ups and downs, spanning 1895 through 1945, rolling out one catchy song after another.

Opening March 28 and running through April 15 will be “Camping with Henry and Tom” by Mark St. Germain. Bristling with humor, the play is fictionally based on a 1921 camping trip taken by Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and President Warren G. Harding. It’s an easy-going satire of politics and history featuring men whose real personalities differed from those shown to the public.

The final Subscription Series production will see the return of the Red Barn’s enormously popular “Short Attention Span Theatre”, all new for 2017. Titled “Brief Encounters”, it will be a mix of fresh, fun, irreverent 10-minute plays – a high-octane evening of laughs for everyone.

And the fun doesn’t end with those Subscription shows. There are non-subscription special events as well:

As a pre-season treat, the 2016-17 season gets an early start with the World Premiere production of “The Return”, the new original play by Key West playwright Bob Bowersox. Workshopped in a reading over the summer to great audience response, the new play wonders what might happen if a respected TV news anchor suddenly announces on-air that he is the returned Jesus Christ. It will run November 1-19.

And January 9-11 will be “And Then I Wrote A Song About It”, the new musical by Eric Weinberger, Dan Acquisto, and Sammy Buck. Nick Cearley (“The Skivvies”, “Buyer & Cellar”) will once again wow Key West audiences in this new award-winning one-man cabaret musical.

Also on tap is a special evening with the multi-talented and absolutely hilarious Gerri Louise Gates. Watch for announcements of date and time.

And not to be missed will be the Red Barn’s annual Gala, this year set for Sunday, March 12th (a full moon!). The theme is “Black Magic” and the always fabulous event will be held at East Martello from 6-8 pm, and feature food by the Iron Chefs, an exciting silent auction, and more.
