Recovery Progress: Survivors Move Into, Out of Travel Trailers, Other Temporary Housing
ORLANDO, Fla. – All 318 households eligible for FEMA-provided housing in Florida have moved into their temporary home. The final move-in occurred in early February.
FEMA assisted eligible households in Collier, Hendry, Lee and Monroe counties by relocating them to travel trailers or providing them with temporary apartment or single family units. These temporary housing arrangements keep Hurricane Irma survivors as close as possible to their schools, work and places of worship while they work on their individual recovery.
Households continue working hard to transition out of travel trailers and other temporary housing and into somewhere they can call a permanent home.
More than 30 households in temporary FEMA-provided housing have returned to a repaired home or found another suitable place to live. The number who achieve these recovery milestones increases weekly.
Remaining households who need help with their housing plans may contact their FEMA advisor for assistance. Plans may include deciding whether to repair or rebuild a pre-disaster home, finding and purchasing a new residence or finding and leasing an available rental unit.

FEMA’s temporary housing assistance and grants for public transportation expenses, medical and dental expenses, and funeral and burial expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.
