Reckless driver arrested for fleeing

A 23-year-old Cudjoe Key man was arrested Sunday for fleeing after crashing into another car.

Jorge Daniel Aguinaga was charged with hit and run, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, and possession of marijuana.

Aguinaga was speeding in a Volkswagen near Mile Marker 30 at approximately 5:45 a.m. when the Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull him over. Aguinaga drove north in the southbound lane and drove in the center turn lane before crashing into another vehicle.

He then fled reaching speeds of 70 mph in a 35 mph zone, before stopping near Mile Marker 32.

Approximately 14 grams of marijuana was found in the suspect’s vehicle.

Aguinaga was taken to jail.
