In an awards ceremony Friday hosted by the Grand Key Resort, Key West Police Chief Sean Brandenburg named Detective Darnell Sealey Officer of the First Half 2023 and Kathy Peters Civilian Employee of the First Half 2023.
Detective Darnell Sealey has been with the Key West Police Department since 2005. He spent two years as a Narcotics, Special Investigations Unit Detective and has now been with the Criminal Investigations Unit since 2015. He has investigated hundreds of criminal cases, including several homicides. He has served as a Task Force Officer for the FBI since 2019. He recently conducted a long-term fraud investigation that took six months and many investigative hours. The investigation led to the arrest of a subject suspected of stealing over $250,000 dollars from his employers.
“Detective Sealey always works diligently to solve every case he is assigned and completes any task he is given,” said Chief Brandenburg. “He is very well known and connected with the community, which is vital to solving cases. Detective Sealey always represents the Key West Police Department in a professional manner, bringing distinguished professional recognition to the Department.”
Kathy Peters joined the Key West Police Department in September of 2021 as Administrative Coordinator to the Operations Bureau. She handles a wide diversity of responsibilities and does so with grace and humor. Her duties include working with the State Attorney’s Office and defense attorneys to coordinate subpoenas and deposition dates.
“She continually takes on extra tasks and makes improvements to the Department’s workflow,” noted Chief Brandenburg. “Her kindness, smile, and positive attitude brighten even the worst of days.”
