Police Conduct Traffic Operation
Motorists may have noticed a lot of blue flashing lights on Friday night. The Key West Police Department conducted a Strategic Traffic Accident Reduction Operation, commonly referred to as a STAR Night.
A total of 157 vehicles were stopped due to traffic-related offenses. This resulted in the seizure of Fentanyl, MDMA, and other illegal substances.
With the success of this operation the KWPD Special Operations Division will be conducting the Strategic Traffic Accident Reduction operations throughout the year. The KWPD Traffic Unit continues to explore additional avenues to combat traffic-related incidents throughout the City of Key West.
The goal of these operations is to remind motorists to drive safely and obey the rules of the road.
“These strategic efforts are a visible reminder to drivers,” said Chief Sean Brandenburg. “It’s an effective educational tool. The increased visibility of law enforcement officers during a STAR night helps remind motorists to drive safely.”
