Poinciana Gardens Senior Living Community to Continue Operations with County, City, & Housing Authority Partnership
KEY WEST, FL – The Monroe County Board of County Commissioners approved a partnership on Wednesday’s regularly scheduled meeting with the City of Key West and the Key West Housing Authority to financially support the Poinciana Gardens Senior Living Community in Key West. The County agreed to provide up to $600,000 per year for three years, not to exceed $1.8 million. The City of Key West commission agreed to fund $400,000, $300,000, and $200,000 for the next three years, and the Housing Authority agreed to pay up to $200,000 per year for three years to cover any shortfalls.
Monroe County will be moving the nine residents at Monroe County-owned Bayshore Manor Assisted Living Facility to Poinciana Gardens. According to Randy Sterling of the Key West Housing Authority, there are 62 beds currently in use out of the 106 units at Poinciana Gardens. Poinciana Gardens could house up to 160 residents depending on room configuration with double-occupancy rooms.
“This partnership will allow our senior residents in Monroe County the ability to stay close to home as they age,” said Monroe County Administrator Roman Gastesi.
When the resident’s transition to Poinciana Gardens is complete, the Bayshore Manor facility may be used for other county purposes, which will be discussed in the coming months.
With the increased cases of Covid, hospital filling up, schools starting, I’m surprised there are no stories about exactly how bad it is, or what the City is planning to do to protect the citizens. You used to print the numbers. Why isn’t this being covered more?
