Plein Air Painters Armory Show
The Key West Plein Air painters have been painting on the streets of Key West for nearly twenty years. Started by artists Fran Decker and Judi Bradford, the informal group has been led for the past two years by Susan O’Neill, an artist at Guild Hall Gallery and the Key West Art Center.
The challenge of plein air painting – to quickly capture light and shadow while painting outdoors in sun, rain, and wind, amid mosquitoes, roosters and tourists – is always an adventure. And our tropical paradise is the perfect place to paint in the open air, all year round, and never run out of subjects.
The group meets Wednesday mornings to paint boats, beaches, and bars, conch houses and favorite restaurants. Also on the schedule are Hemingway House, Truman Little White House and other special locations. Local artists, snowbirds, tourists and foreign visitors have joined the group by following the schedule on Facebook.
The Armory Show is the first exhibition of the current group, comprised of some of Key West’s finest artists. Come see their beautiful interpretations of your favorite sites of Key West.
