PAUL WUNDERLICH PRESENTED 20 YEARS OF SERVICE PIN; NINE NEW FIREFIGHTERS PINNED FOR SERVICE

FLORIDA KEYS, FL – At the Friday, Jan. 21 regularly scheduled Board of County Commissioner’s meeting at Marathon Government Center, Paul Wunderlich, Supervisor Construction Inspector in Engineering Services, was honored for his 20 years of service to Monroe County. In addition, nine new Monroe County Fire Rescue were pinned for duty at the meeting.

Photo Paul Wunderlich: Paul Wunderlich, Supervisor Construction Inspector in the Engineering Department, was honored for 20 years of service to Monroe County. Wunderlich began his employment with Monroe County in December 2001 as a Landfill Operator at the Cudjoe Transfer Station and also worked in Fleet Management and the library for a short period of time. Today, he works countywide overseeing work on county-maintained roads and bridges. He has represented Monroe County onsite during large construction projects such as the Cudjoe Regional Wastewater construction project and the FKAA water transmission line upgrade along CR 905, where he resolved numerous contractor issues and homeowner inquiries. He investigates right-of-way violations, resident calls and complaints, and inspects utility and contractor work on our roads to ensure compliance with county requirements. During 2020, he worked the checkpoint on the 18-mile stretch and assisted with traffic monitoring on the Duck Key Bridges during the strengthening project.

“Paul works tirelessly to maintain our county’s infrastructure,” said Judy Clarke, Director of Engineering Services. “He is an asset to the organization.”

PhotosMCFR: Monroe County Fire Rescue (MCFR) welcomed nine new members to the department with a badge pinning and oath presentation with the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners. MCFR is pleased to welcome Firefighter EMT Alexander Andalia, Firefighter Paramedic Chris Baylis, Firefighter EMT Kevin Cossio, Firefighter EMT Joseph Hernandez, Firefighter EMT David Iser, Firefighter EMT Ariel Lopez, Firefighter Paramedic Adrian Macias Ricard, Firefighter EMT Carlos Nava Orosco, and Firefighter EMT Spencer Saltzburg.

In addition, Monroe County accepted a SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) Grant to hire 24 new firefighters this year. The grant program provides funding directly to fire departments to assist in increasing the number of firefighters to help communities meet industry minimum standards and attain 24-hour staffing to improve fire protection and other fire rescue-related hazards, and to fulfill traditional missions of fire departments.
