Open letter to Senator Scott
Dear Senator Scott:
I learned you were one of several Senate colleagues who determined to oppose Pennsylvania’s electoral vote before a joint session of Congress. I disagreed with your opinion. I believed since this matter had gone before numerous courts and recounts, etc., opposition would only support continued discord and division.
Then the insurrection, fueled by former President Donald Trump, occurred, leaving 5 dead; damaging the capitol building, and forcing you and all your colleagues to flee the chamber to safety. I believed this insurrection which put you and others in danger would result in a change of heart on your part. I thought you would reconsider your opposition to accepting Joe Biden as the legitimate 46th President. But you voted in opposition even after the insurrection was finally quashed and you were safely back in the chamber. What purpose did this opposition serve?
I am now writing to urge you to vote to convict former President Donald Trump on the charge as set forth in the Article of Impeachment delivered to the Senate. I urge you to vote in unity with all the Senate members to hold former President Trump accountable for the misinformation and lies that led to the insurrection against the United States on January 6, 2021.
I urge you to see that accountability serves to unite us in Democracy and not divide us. I urge you defend the Constitution and put the United States of America ahead of partisan politics to convict Mr. Trump of inciting an insurrection, and bar him from holding federal office in the future.
Very truly yours,
Barbara Hormuth
