NOON RAIN COLLECTION SEMINAR for CONTRACTORS, HOME OWNERS and BPAS PERMIT HOLDERS

March 12th, 2018  – A simple “How To” presentation will take place on March, 12th from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm at the Key West City Hall, 1300 White Street. This lunchtime event is designed to assist contractors and homeowners in fulfilling their BPAS 1,000 gallon rainwater requirements (esp. BPAS Permit Holders Years 1-3).

It includes designing and calculating wholesale costs of all of the parts needed for a rainwater system. Bring all information from your own project plus something to write on and a simple calculator (or cell phone turned off).

This free event is sponsored by the City of Key West Sustainability Advisory Board, the local Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council and Last Stand. It will feature Alison Higgins, Key West Sustainability Director and Ric Lightner. Ric is the Florida and United States Southeast Regional Representative for the American Rainwater Collection Systems Association. ARCSA’s goal is to promote sustainable rainwater harvesting practices to help solve potable, nonpotable, stormwater and energy challenges throughout the world.

The presentations will focus on how to fulfill the requirements of Key West’s green Building Permit Allocation System (BPAS) 1,000 gallon rainwater collection for new and restored buildings. Personal help will be available.

Whether contractor or homeowner, after the lecture you will know wholesale costs and how to safely build, collect and store rainwater for household and landscape use for your own project. Other topics will include how to restore an existing cistern or convert a septic tank.

Richard Lightner is a Certifying Agent for the Florida Green Building Coalition and USGBC LEED AP BD+C. He has certified only platinum level residential units (94), winning highest FGBC platinum scores at 216 and 223. They won in the State of Florida against 2,600 others built, for the years 2016 and 2017.
