Moving assets to safer places

The Sheriff’s Office spent the day moving assets including cars, trucks, boats, messaging boards and large equipment to safer locations for the duration of Hurricane Irma. The Sheriff’s Office lost a large number of vehicles to flooding after Hurricane Wilma in 2005. Learning from that lesson, commanders were directed to find areas of higher ground and places where equipment would be safer from storm winds, storm surge and flooding.

It is essential for law enforcement assets to remain dry and undamaged so officers can respond to emergencies after the storm passes. Here are cars from the Upper Keys parked in the parking lot of the Pink Plaza in Key Largo; and in the other picture, some assets from the Lower Keys were moved to the Aviation Hanger at the Marathon airport for protection.
