Motorist arrested on drug charges after running school bus stop sign
A 38-year-old Florida City man was arrested Monday afternoon in Marathon after failing to stop for a school bus stop sign, which led to the discovery of a cache of drugs and money.
Marcell Nance was charged with possession of cocaine, marijuana, a controlled substance without a prescription and drug paraphernalia.
Deputy Anthony Wales saw a Buick fail to stop for a school bus at 3:50 p.m. on U.S. 1 at 60th Street. As Deputy Wales was following the Buick he noticed the driver, later identified as Nance, was leaning over and it appeared he was attempting to hide something.
Deputy Wales noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. Deputy Wales searched Nance and the Buick. A large amount of cash, marijuana and a pipe were found in Nance’s possession. Cocaine and heroin were found in the car.
The following were found in total:
- $7,490 in cash
- 9.7 grams of heroin
- 10.5 grams of crack cocaine
- 11.2 grams of powder cocaine
- About a gram of marijuana
There were other suspected narcotics in the car that will be sent to a lab for testing.
Nance was taken to jail.
