Motorcyclist arrested for DUI/fleeing and eluding  

A 55-year-old Crossville, Tennessee man was arrested Monday for speeding through Marathon while evading Deputies.

David B. Lawson was charged with DUI, fleeing and eluding and reckless driving.

Middle Keys Deputy Corbin Hradecky was on patrol at 5:16 p.m. when he received a be-on-the-lookout alert for a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle driving recklessly on U.S. 1 southbound from the Florida Keys Marathon International Airport. Deputy Hradecky spotted the motorcycle on 5600 block of the highway traveling southbound at well over the posted 45 mph speed limit. The was a female passenger on the motorcycle behind the driver. The driver of the motorcycle — later identified as Lawson — turned around and looked back at Deputy Hradecky who had now turned on his lights and siren. Lawson increased his speed and did not stop. Deputy Hradecky followed as the motorcycle attempted to gain distance. The motorcycle was now traveling 80 mph.

The motorcycle failed to stop for two other Deputies as well before finally pulling into the U.S. Border Patrol station on the 3700 block of the highway.

Lawson stated he didn’t know the speed limit was 45 mph. Lawson stated he believed people were attempting to cut him off. Lawson stated he didn’t know Deputies were behind him. Lawson eyes were bloodshot, his speech slurred and he smelled of alcohol. He failed field sobriety tests.

The female passenger stated the pair had been drinking on Grassy Key. She stated Lawson knew he was fleeing from law enforcement. She stated she was scared and told Lawson to pull over. The female was not charged.

Lawson was taken to jail.
