More than a pound of marijuana found in traffic stop

A 61-year-old Marathon man was arrested Monday following a traffic stop in which 1.2 pounds of marijuana was found.

Leonardo Perez Serrano was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Sheriff’s Office stopped a southbound Chevrolet pickup truck on U.S. 1 near Mile Marker 69 at approximately 12:47 p.m. There was a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and the marijuana was found in a bag inside the truck.

Two arrested in fraud case

A man and woman have been arrested following a Sheriff’ Office investigation in the Upper Keys involving forgery of notary fraud.

Shelly Ann Saunders, 56, of Key Largo, Florida was charged with 14 counts of notary fraud.

Gavin Joseph Guinan, 56, of Boynton Beach, Florida, was charged with 14 counts of forgery.

The investigation showed Guinan forged Monroe County government building documents and Saunders fraudulently notarized those forged documents over the course of approximately two years.
