MONROE COUNTY WILL FOLLOW GOVERNOR’S EXECUTIVE ORDER TO MOVE INTO PHASE 2, MASKS STILL HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IN PUBLIC SETTINGS

MONROE COUNTY, FL – Monroe County will follow Governor Ron DeSantis’ latest Executive Order 20-139, which moves the State of Florida into Phase 2 of the “Safe. Smart. Step-by-Step Plan for Florida’s Recovery.”

Phase 2, which starts Friday, June 5, allows bars to reopen at 50 percent of their indoor capacity and bar areas may reopen with seated service. Outdoor seating is allowed with proper social distancing. Employees and customers of businesses in unincorporated Monroe County are highly recommended to continue wearing facial coverings in public settings. The City of Key West and other municipalities may have stricter guidelines.

Entertaining businesses, like movie theaters, concert halls, auditoriums, playhouses, bowling alleys, and arcades, may also operate at 50 percent capacity with appropriate social distancing and sanitation. Tattooing, body piercing, tanning, and massage establishments are also allowed to reopen with appropriate safety guidelines outlined by the Department of Health.

Violation of these orders are punishable with jailtime or fines. Code enforcement will continue to educate businesses in violation before reporting to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

All persons in Florida are still encouraged to follow appropriate social distancing and safety protocols issued by the CDC and OSHA. The order also continues to say that senior citizens and those with underlying medical conditions avoid crowds and that congregating in groups of more than 50 is discouraged.
