MONROE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS FOR JULY 18th

The Monroe County School District met July 18th, 2017 at Marathon High School’s media center, for a scheduled School Board workshop and meeting. The meeting convened with four board members present, with Board Member Mindy Conn available via phone. Chairman John Dick was unable to attend due to scheduled travel out of the country.

Here are highlights from the workshop and meeting:

v  Executive Director of Operations and Planning Patrick Lefere spoke to the Board about three potential plans for a Marathon Athletic Facility upgrade, with options for additional parking, field improvements, and a possible running track facility available.

v  Mr. Lefere also presented the board with a summer construction update during the regular meeting.

v  During the public input portion, Marathon Councilman Mark Senmartin, Planning Director George Garrett, and Keys Weekly Editor Sara Matthis were among the residents who spoke to the plans set forth for the property.

v  Executive Director of Assessment and Accountability David Murphy detailed the preliminary school grades, the district ranking, and student performance on Advanced Placement exams.

v   The Board had a discussion based on the presentation from Mr. Murphy, about acceleration and pathways and options for students to matriculate.

v  Executive Director of Finance and Performance James Drake presented an overview of the tentative 2017-2018 budget, with a request to advertise the public hearing for the tentative budget meeting scheduled for next week.

v  The School Board Members also approved the following items:

  • the authorization of the Executive Director of Finance & Performance to advertise the notice of the Board’s intent to adopt a tentative budget and tentative millage rates for the 2017-2018 school year.
  • the acceptance of a change order from AJAX Building for Gerald Adams Elementary School.
