Monroe County Officials Attend Florida Keys Day in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Monroe County Commissioners, senior staff, officials from Florida Keys municipalities, and local business owners were in the State capital Thursday for the annual Florida Keys Day. In addition to meeting with legislators, Monroe County also met with the Governor’s office, Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez, Rep. Jim Mooney, Department of Environmental Protection, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Citizens Insurance, among others.

Monroe County Mayor David Rice, Mayor Pro Tem Craig Cates, Commissioners Michelle Coldiron and Holly Merrill Raschein, County Administrator Roman Gastesi, County Attorney Bob Shillinger, and Legislative Affairs Director Lisa Tennyson discussed the County’s legislative priorities, including the County’s Stewardship funding, resilience funding, derelict vessels, vessel pump-out funding, wind insurance issues, and other Monroe County matters of concern.

This year, Florida Keys Day was hosted by Rep. Jim Mooney. The annual event started as a product of the 2009 Leadership Monroe County Class XVII. The day ended with a sponsored reception with hundreds of people enjoying popular Keys fare, like conch fritters, lionfish ceviche, and, of course, Key Lime pie.
