Monroe County Fire Rescue Responded to Trailer Fire on Stock Island
STOCK ISLAND, FL – Monroe County Fire Rescue responded to a fire of a single-wide trailer on 10th Avenue on Stock Island at 5:45 Friday afternoon.
The crew of Engine 8, the first arriving unit, performed a quick attack with two hose lines. Battalion Chief Alvin “Cab” Bentley responded from Key West International Airport and assumed incident command. The crew of Engine 9 from Big Coppitt Key secured a dedicated water source from a nearby hydrant. And crews from Engine 10 on Sugarloaf and Utility 7 from the airport assisted with overhaul and scene clean-up, which was completed around 9 p.m.
The quick aggressive work by the firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to nearby homes. But the fire was too involved when firefighters arrived to save the trailer, which was a complete loss. There also was heat damage to a nearby trailer, boat and car. There were no injuries to people, but a dog was believed to have perished inside the trailer, Bentley said.
A fire marshal is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
