MONROE COUNTY BOCC DISCUSSES BALANCE AMONG QUALITY OF LIFE, ECONOMY AND ENVIRONMENT FOR 2020 STRATEGIC PLAN
During a special workshop Tuesday at the Marathon Government Center, the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners discussed issues of concern and County priorities to provide direction to County staff for the completion of the Monroe County 2020 Strategic Plan.
The Strategic Plan guides the scope and direction of County services based on priorities established by the BOCC and with extensive input from the public and Monroe County’s senior management team. The plan enables all County divisions and departments to focus its actions, resources and budgets on goals and projects that support the County’s future goals.
Priorities and concerns discussed were compiled after extensive feedback from the community before and after Hurricane Irma struck the Keys. The goal is to strike a balance in the County between quality of life, the economy and the environment. The methodology, summary and analysis behind the community input data, which also is divided by geographical regions, is available at: www.monroecounty-fl.gov/strategicplanning.
Monroe County Strategic Planning Director Kimberly Matthews led the workshop. She will incorporate the suggestions and comments of the BOCC to create a mission, vision and initiatives for the County that will reflect the priorities of the community and the commission. Matthews is also working with each of the County’s 22 departments to develop tactical plans that directly address the priorities of the BOCC.
The public had a chance to speak at the meeting. The 2020 Strategic Plan, mission statement and vision statement will be brought before the commission at the Thursday, March 21, 2019 BOCC meeting at Murray Nelson Government Center in Key Largo
