MCSD responds to non-specific threats via Instagram related to Marathon School

MARATHON, Fla. – Monroe County Schools officials are aware of recent online posts naming Marathon Middle High School and have been working closely with Monroe County Sheriff’s Office officials all morning. The All County band concert will take place as planned. MCSO will have a visible presence before, during and after the concert at 3:00 pm Saturday afternoon.

 Superintendent Mark Porter said the situation is being closely monitored. “The response to the event came from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and the Monroe County School District, but it feels great to see the quick response from the community in reporting the incident. MCSO officials investigated the perceived threat, and we know they will take every step to ensuring student safety at the event. I look forward to attending the concert this afternoon at Marathon High School.”
