Mayor Thanks Complying Businesses

In light of the unprecedented measures taken in the City to ensure public health, we want to recognize and thank the individual businesses that, on very short notice, complied with the order to close all bars and limit restaurants for take-out and delivery only.

The City has received reports of non-compliance among bars and restaurants last night. However, it’s estimated that about 95 percent of our local businesses have complied. City staff has been meeting with those who did not comply, working hard today to ensure 100 percent compliance.

“We understand that it was a challenge,” said Mayor Teri Johnston. “We want to sincerely thank the businesses that closed voluntarily and those who complied with the order. They showed the true spirit of this island.”

Here are the other closures that occurred this week:

  • Mallory Square
  • Smathers Beach
  • The Southernmost Point
  • All parks and playgrounds
  • All recreational facility, including the PAL and Douglass gyms
  • Suspended the Duval Loop
  • Limited the Ferry Terminal outbound passengers only

The City has established a hotline that is staffed 24/7: 305-809-1101

“We are taking unprecedented measures today to ensure a healthy and safe community in the future,” said Mayor Johnston.
