Marathon Community Theatre Presents Children’s Summer Theatre

Marathon, FL (July 11, 2017) – Marathon Community Theatre (MCT), located at 5101 Overseas Highway in Marathon, will present Into the Woods Jr. by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. This cockeyed fairytale is brought to life by the children of the Middle Keys who have been working through the summer learning all the aspects of community theatre. The students begin with auditions for on-stage participation and continue their learning through all the details of what happens backstage such as lighting and sound, set-design and building, directing and producing, gathering props, costuming, set-dressing and all other responsibilities necessary to produce and present a quality live presentation.

Into the Woods Jr. features all your favorite characters: Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and his beanstalk and the Witch. The musical centers on a baker and his wife who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk.

Nearly 40 local students from ages six to 18 have participated in the program which is supported, in part, by the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys, the City of Marathon and the Marathon Community Theatre.

Devin Clarke and Kara Pascucci, both board members and seasoned performers at MCT, have taken on the responsibility of teaching these young thespians for the past several weeks.

Performances are Friday, July 21 and Saturday, July 22, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased online at www.marathontheater.org, at the box office at 5101 Overseas Highway in Marathon, or by calling 305-743-0994.
