Man with stolen gun arrested

A 19-year-old Homestead man was arrested early Wednesday morning after a stolen 9mm handgun was found in his car following a traffic stop.

Landon Shane Nail was charged with grand theft of a firearm.

Deputy Daniel Valdes stopped a speeding Infiniti on U.S.1 at Mile Marker 102 at approximately 2:34 a.m. Nail was identified as the driver. A male passenger was not charged in the incident.

There was a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Deputy Corbin Hradecky arrived to assist. Nail handed over less than a gram of marijuana. A search of the car turned up 1.9 additional grams of marijuana.

A Taurus handgun was found in the glove compartment. The gun was listed as stolen out of Miami-Dade County.

Nail was determined to be in possession of the handgun after Deputies interviewed both men.

Nail was taken to jail.
