Man on scooter arrested for fleeing

An 18-year-old Key West, Florida man was arrested Friday after fleeing from the Sheriff’s Office on U.S. 1 while riding an electric scooter.

Jesus Guerra Diaz was charged with fleeing and eluding and operating an unregistered motor vehicle on a street or highway.

The Sheriff’s Office observed Diaz on Rockland Key at approximately 7:20 a.m. Diaz failed to stop for the Sheriff’s Office and fled into a commercial/business area.

A witness flagged down the Sheriff’s Office and identified Diaz as one of his employees. The witness contacted Diaz on the phone and Diaz agreed to meet with the Sheriff’s Office at his place of employment whereupon he was arrested.
