Man injured on Stock Island identified
The homeless man found injured on U.S. 1 on Stock Island Friday night has been identified as 54-year-old Andrew Wayne Louthan.
Louthan was scheduled to be released from Ryder Trauma Center in Miami on Sunday after he was airlifted by Trauma Star shortly after he was found partially in the roadway at roughly 9:45 p.m. with deep cuts to his head and neck by passing motorists on the 5600 block of Overseas Highway.
Detectives spoke to Louthan and he stated he recently received a $300 money order or transfer at the CVS Pharmacy on Stock Island and was sleeping in the mangroves at a campsite near Key West Golf Club thereafter when he was attacked by a man with a razor.
Detectives will be reviewing security camera footage at the CVS Pharmacy in order to identify a suspect in the case.
Detectives found Louthan’s wallet — with no money — and his personal effects at the campsite as well as some blood, but no weapon.
The incident remains under investigation.
