Man cited for undersized snapper
A 26-year-old Miami-Dade County man was given a mandatory notice to appear in court citation Saturday morning for possession of three undersized snappers.
Marine Deputy Nelson Sanchez was on patrol at 8:15 a.m. near Mile Marker 79 and the Tea Table Bridge when he saw Benito Borrego Gonzalez fishing. He also had a cooler.
Inside the cooler were three undersized mutton snappers and one undersized mangrove snapper. There were also some legal sized jacks and grunts.
The undersized fish were donated to the Wild Bird Center.
Mutton snapper are required to be 18 inches to be harvested. Mangrove snapper must be 10 inches.
