Man cited for illegal fish

A 67-year-old Russian man was given a mandatory notice to appear in court citation on Friday after he was found in possession of undersized fish.

Deputy Elam Thornbrugh was on patrol on the south end of the Boca Chica Bridge at 4:57 p.m. when he approached an angler identified as Alexander Alekseyeveich Vodnev.

When asked if he caught anything, Vodnev answered he caught a “few small ones.”

A search of his cooler turned up a dead, six-inch yellowtail snapper.

Yellowtail snapper are required to be 12 inches for legal harvest.
