Man Arrested in Suspected Burglary Ring
After several months of investigation, the Key West Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit and FDLE executed a search warrant at a residence on Fogarty Avenue in Key West. Christopher Eugene Valdez, 55, was taken into custody.
The ongoing investigation was initiated months prior, after receiving information regarding a burglary ring throughout Florida. Valdez, just one of the suspects, has a long history of committing burglaries and was recently released from prison.
During a search of Valdez’s bedroom in the residence, detectives recovered numerous items that have been stolen from residences in Key West over the past several months. Valdez was arrested on burglary related charges that occurred in Sarasota County. He also faces numerous local charges in reference to ongoing burglary cases; those investigations are continuing.
Valdez’s arrest comes on the heels of the arrest of two other burglary suspects who, in unrelated cases, are suspected of committing a series of burglaries across the island.
All three arrests are a reminder to residents and visitors: keep doors and windows locked to avoid crimes of opportunity.
