Man arrested for vehicle theft after crash

A 35-year-old Tavernier, Florida man was arrested Tuesday after crashing a stolen car.

Brandon Areno Shelby was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, hit-and-run, and causing property damage.

Witnesses stated the suspect, later identified as Shelby, crashed a Chevrolet Equinox near Mile Marker 93 at approximately 2:49 a.m. Shelby then left the scene on foot. The Chevrolet was reported stolen from a residence in Key Largo. Shelby was later seen at a gas station near Mile Marker 103 whereupon he left his ID.

Shelby was found at his residence and arrested.
