Man arrested for vehicle burglary

A 38-year-old Marathon man was arrested Sunday after breaking the window of a sport utility and stealing a purse.

Dale Allen Pierce was charged with burglary, larceny and damage to property.

Deputies were called to the Inglesia Evangelica Church at approximately 2 p.m. regarding a vehicle burglary in progress.

Two witnesses stated they saw a suspect remove a purse from a sport utility vehicle while the vehicle’s alarm was sounding.

A hammer and glass shards were found near the SUV.

Sgt. Joel Slough found a suspect matching the description nearby. There were glass shards in the pockets of his hoodie. The two witnesses identified Pierce as the suspect.

The victim’s purse was found in a wooded area nearby.

Pierce was taken to jail.
