Man arrested for marine GPS theft

A 23-year-old Key West, Florida man was arrested Thursday for his role in the theft of $65,000 worth of marine Garmin GPS units from an Islamorada boat yard.

Dennis Williams Hernandez Gonzalez was charged with five counts of burglary, one count of grand theft over $20,000, and violation of probation (for a previous grand theft of a motor vehicle conviction).

Sheriff’s Office Detectives began investigating the theft of seven GPS units from four burglarized vessels at the SB Marine Group on Wednesday. They were able to identify a suspect vehicle seen at the scene. The vehicle was later found on Stock Island, which led Detectives to Hernandez Gonzalez. Hernandez Gonzalez admitted to driving the vehicle.

The case remains under investigation and more arrests may be pending.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detectives at 305-853-3211.
