Man arrested for illegal lobster/fish   

A 27-year-old Miami man was arrested Saturday for illegally spearing lobster and possessing an undersized snapper while fishing in a restricted area.

Moises Esau Rodriguez Alvarenga was charged with harvesting lobster in the Biscayne Bay-Card Sound Spiny Lobster Sanctuary, illegally spearfishing lobster, illegally spearfishing in the Upper Keys (unless three nautical miles from shore) possession of an undersized mangrove snapper and failure to possess a measuring device in the water.

He was also cited for no dive flag, no fishing license and no lobster endorsement.

Sgt. James Hager was conducting resource checks at approximately 3:58 p.m. on the north end of the Card Sound Bridge when he saw a male swimmer in the canal area with a spear gun and no dive flag.

The diver was identified as Rodriguez Alvarenga. Sgt. Hager found two legal-sized lobsters with spear gun holes in them. He also found three mangrove snapper, one of which was undersized.

Rodriguez Alvarenga was taken to jail.
