Man arrested for battery in road rage incident
A 32-year-old Big Pine Key man was arrested Monday afternoon after hitting a 63-year-old man in an apparent road rage incident that resulted in the victim suffering a broken leg.
Jamie Allan Koval was charged with aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability.
Deputy Michael Watkins was called to No Name Pub regarding a battery at 7:45 p.m. on Nov. 8. The victim — of Hollywood, Florida —stated he was driving on Watson Road with his wife when a pickup truck began tailgating him. The truck eventually pulled around him and stopped, but the victim drove around the truck and eventually on to No Name Pub, where the victim and his wife stopped for food. The suspect, later identified as Koval, got out of the pickup truck and started yelling profanity at the victim. He then punched the victim and hit the victim in the leg. The victim was later taken to Fishermen’s Hospital in Marathon and then Kendall Regional Medical Center in Miami where he required surgery to a broken leg.
Multiple witnesses recognized the truck tailgating the victim as the truck belonging to Koval.
The victim later identified Koval from a photo lineup as the suspect.
A warrant was issued for Koval’s arrest.
Koval was booked into jail on Monday.
