Man arrested for battery
A 51-year-old Key Largo man was arrested for attacking another man in Tavernier on Wednesday.
Anthony Angelo Colarusso was charged with battery.
There were no serious injuries reported.
Deputy Jean Gonzalez was called to the 91000 block of the Overseas Highway about 10 a.m., regarding a man who chased another man into a gym and was hitting him as well as threatening to kill him. The suspect, later identified as Colarusso, then left the scene northbound on U.S. 1 in a white pickup truck.
Deputy Gonzalez spoke to the victim who stated he left a nearby gym and was walking to his vehicle in the parking lot when he saw a white pickup truck bumping into his vehicle. He stated the suspect got out of the truck and began to yell and curse at him. The victim stated he doesn’t know the suspect and had no idea what he was talking about.
The victim stated he attempted to reason with the suspect, but the suspect became aggressive, so the victim ran back to the gym. Gym security video footage showed Colarusso punching the victim in the face and head while both were in the lobby. The victim stated the suspect had a lock in his hand with the metal loop around his knuckle.
The victim ran to a building stairway and got away. Colarusso left the scene in the aforementioned pickup truck.
Two witnesses at the gym corroborated the victim’s story.
The pickup truck was found and stopped on Tavernier Road by Deputy Gonzalez. Colarusso stated he was involved in a fight earlier. He stated the incident was spurred by a domestic issue over a female.
Colarusso was taken to jail.
