Man arrested for battery

A 36-year-old Tampa Bay, Florida man was arrested Thursday night for punching another man in the face who attempted to intervene during a domestic quarrel.

Christopher Ryan Sutton was charged with battery.

Upper Keys Deputy Joel Rios, Sgt. Robert Dosh and Deputy Christopher Kilmurray were called to Woody’s strip club in Islamorada, 81908 Overseas Highway, about 11:53 p.m. regarding a disturbance. Deputy Rios arrived to find the 31-year-old male victim in the parking lot. The victim stated he was walking home from work at a nearby resort when he heard a man cursing and yelling at someone. He stated he walked toward the ruckus and realized the man was yelling at a woman. The victim stated he thought he saw the suspect hit the woman and yelled for the pair to “take that somewhere else.” That’s when the suspect, later identified as Sutton, turned and punched the victim in the face.

Deputy Rios noted the victim had a bloody nose and a swollen lip. The victim declined medical treatment.

The woman, Sutton’s wife, was found behind a building near Woody’s. She stated an argument started while both she and Sutton were inside Woody’s and it carried over into the parking lot as she was attempting to go back to a hotel. She stated Sutton became upset when dancers at club invited her onstage and attempted to undress her, before Sutton angrily intervened.

The woman stated Sutton never struck her. Deputy Rios did not observe any physical markings on the woman.

Sgt. Doth and Deputy Kilmurray found Sutton nearby. Sutton had blood stains on his shirt and cuts to his knuckles and fingers.

Sutton was taken to jail.
