Man arrested for battery
A 43-year-old Riviera Beach, Florida man was arrested Monday afternoon for hitting a gas station clerk and then fleeing from Deputies on foot.
Richard Jay Ritenour was charged with battery and resisting arrest.
There were no serious injuries recorded.
Deputy Jacques Rozek responded to the Circle K at 92729 Overseas Highway in Tavernier regarding a man who attacked an employee. Deputy Rozek arrived to find the suspect sitting near U.S. 1 who he recognized as someone who had been in vehicle crash earlier that day. The suspect, later identified as Ritenour, ran away as Deputy Rozek approached him. It required Deputies Rozek, Cody Jackson and Lance Hernandez to corral Ritenour as he kept running away.
Ritenour was finally taken into custody.
Several store employees and witnesses were interviewed. Security footage corroborated their story that Ritenour walked up to a male employee and threw him to the floor without saying a word.
Ritenour was taken to jail.
