Man arrested following child abuse investigation

A 39-year-old La Crosse, Wisconsin man — formerly of Marathon, Florida — was charged Thursday with a litany of child sexual abuse charges.

Eric Eward Cadogan faces numerous felony charges that include child cruelty, sexual assault on a minor, lewd and lascivious behavior, contributing to the delinquency of a child, among others, following an investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office as well as the FBI and Office of the State Attorney.

Eric Cadogan was previously arrested by the FBI in Wisconsin and pleaded guilty in federal court in March 2024 to distributing child pornography and was sentenced in June 2024 to 20 years in federal prison to be followed by a lifetime of supervised release. He will now face additional charges as stated above.

Eric Edward Cadogan’s wife — Kia Lynn Cadogan, 34, also of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and formerly of Marathon, Florida — was arrested by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in January 2024 on multiple felony aggravated child abuse and child sexual battery charges. Her case has yet to be adjudicated in the Monroe County, Florida courts.

Both suspects are former liveaboards of Boot Key Harbor in Marathon, Florida.

“Myself, and the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office are committed to protecting the most vulnerable among us — our children,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “I want to commend the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives and our law enforcement partners who worked to ensure these two suspects were brought to justice.”

Eric Edward Cadogan remains in Monroe County jail on $2,225,000 bond. Kia Lynn Cadogan remains in Monroe County jail on a $550,000 bond.
