Man arrested after drugs/gun found following traffic stop

A 57-year-old Cudjoe Key man was arrested after drugs, a gun and more than $8,000 in cash were found following a traffic stop Friday.

Oscar French Shearer was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and carrying an unlicensed firearm.

Deputy Jennifer Ketcham stopped a Toyota Corolla driven by Shearer at approximately 1:28 p.m. near Mile Marker 23 after observing him following another vehicle too closely.

Deputy Ketcham detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and learned Shearer didn’t have a valid driver’s license or proof of insurance.

Less than 20 grams of marijuana, approximately .75 grams of cocaine and some drug paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle along with $8,360 in cash.

A handgun was also found in the center console. Shearer did not have a concealed weapons permit for the handgun.

Shearer was taken to jail.
